The quote you have is accurate, but there is a little more to the story as to why two writers worked on [Buried in Time].

I got a call from the Mega-Books editor working on the Casefiles series at that time [wanting an outline for a new HB story.] I don't remember the original story idea I was given, but I changed the setting to Oklahoma and added my hometown, some other personal touches, invented an Indian tribe, and used many real places in the outline. The editor loved it, but someone at S&S wanted to change the setting to Arizona or some other place. I stuck to my guns, and the story was set in my home state and my home town.

The only change that was made was the name of the air force base from Altus AFB to Jackson AFB. It was explained to me at the time that they felt uncomfortable using a real military installation, which puzzled me because they were using a real town, a real state park, and other very real situations.

After outlining and making some changes to the outline requested by S&S, I begged to write the story. I was willing to do it for the money I received for the outlining, but the book was promised to the other writer. I was very disappointed that I couldn't write it but happy that my plot and setting remained intact.

Because of all the work I did on the outline and the battles I endured with S&S, I have always felt I deserved a second tier billing for Buried in Time.

Keep up the good work.
